Castle Cary U9 0 vs East Coker Rangers U9 5 – Report

East Coker Rangers U9 went into the game against Castle Cary facing a side who had just come down from the league above. A tough game was ahead for the team on a wet Saturday morning on a sodden pitch.

East Coker started brightly with Isabel Hillier-Nickel and Corey Groves relentlessly running and pressuring the Castle Cary back line into defensive errors. The breakthrough came from a winding run on the wing from Rocco Sughayer who crossed in for Rhys Ashton who fired the ball into the bottom corner of the goal. An early contender for team goal of the season.

Number 2 soon followed… not to be outdone Rocco Sughayer made a left wing run, cutting inside to score with a tidy finish at the near post.

East Coker began to express themselves more often in the second half of the game. There was strong play from Emily Palmer and Jack Marles who provided a solid back line for Jake Ashton and Oliver Frost to pile forward in search of more goals. Goal number 3 arrived from Joel Trott, sending a shot crashing in off the underside of the crossbar to score his second in as many weeks. Soon after it was 4-0, Isabel Hillier-Nickel adding to her goal tally for the season being in the right place at the right time earning her reward after a lot of running.

Finally 5-0 arrived after a mass scramble for a loose ball in the box, this was swiftly poked home by Rocco Sughayer just ahead of the tireless Charlie Hillier-Nickel who narrowly missed out on scoring. A special mention must go to Oliver Frost for sprinting the length of the pitch on his own to deny Castle Cary a goal, a fantastic attitude to win that at the moment is flowing through a very good young side.

Well done today everyone.
