U15 Newsletter 2016/17

Welcome to 2016/17 season

Another season beckons with the highs and lows that I am sure will come with it.  I’m not going to dwell on last season other than acknowledge despite losing several key members of the squad we remained competitive till the end and with a bit more luck may have prevailed.

We say cheerio to Henty, Frankie, Ed and welcome Rory and 2-3 more signings tbc.

I am pleased to report that Luca Martin is making good progress and we of course wish him well and to see him at some stage this season back in a Coker kit.

Fees and membership.

After lengthy discussions the committee have had to change the way fees are paid for this season going forwards.  We have been fortunate enough as a club not to have charged for training up until this year.  The increased fees are essential for us to be able to maintain the running of the club, which last season cost just under £20,000 .

There will now be a standing order of £16 for 8 months Sept-April.  This is essentially a subscription to ECC FC and covers everything from training costs /equipment/coach’s qualifications /league and cup registration/pitch hire/white lining/insurance/referee’s fees/match fees.

The membership fee of £30 remains the same other than for those who have sibling in the club and then a total of £50 covers all.  We will be handing out the forms for the standing orders with membership forms and newsletter (see attached)

Player development

As we are only together for a short time each week we are strongly encouraging everyone to try and get additional training/coaching wherever possible. We are aware that as coaches we are volunteers and as such don’t have the level of professional coaching training that those additional schemes may offer.  In terms of maximising your child’s development we strongly recommend you consider additional training for them to enhance their development of footballers. Please talk to us if you require any more information.

Fitness

This season there will be more fitness and physical demands on the players this season.  Games will be an additional 10 minutes – 80 mins in all.  Within the training provided there will be a level of physical fitness however the main focus of this will be on technical and tactical development.

It is the individual player’s responsibility to get themselves as fit as they possibly can so they can achieve theirs, and the team’s full potential and hopefully minimise injuries.

We will try to fit in friendlies across the season initially for pre-season and throughout the season where there are opportunities.  We will continue to balance giving players opportunities to develop through match time as well selecting teams that can be competitive in the more challenging fixtures.

Fitness will this season be a factor in team selection and potentially match time.

The fitness and conditioning training with James Carttigan we hope to be able to continue to offer at some level during the season.

Coaching and Training

We will endeavour to provide as high quality coaching as we can throughout the season with a range of coaches taking sessions and assisting.

Pre-season Aug training dates

Thurs 4th Aug at Coker 6.30-8

From Tues 9th Aug training will all be on Tuesdays evenings 6.30-8 at Coker till end of Sept when we will move to Bucklers Mead.

Training at Bucklers Mead will be from 6.30 till 8 in October.  Bucklers is having a new 3G surface in Aug.

If it appears there are not enough players available on a given date for one of the above training sessions, we will cancel the session in advance.

Respect and Behaviour:

This season we will be continuing to harness our player’s passion and competiveness and ensure this desire is balanced with a positive attitude, both in matches and training.  As coaches we will continue to balance player development along with an appropriate level of intensity that is required to be competitive.

We are only together for a few hours each week so want to maximise our opportunities to develop players both as individuals and as a team. Discipline in football is essential on many levels; good behaviour and respect both on and off the pitch when representing East Coker Cockerels, both from players and parents, is something we pride ourselves on and would like to continue. As we are now under 15s we continue to expect all players to show good levels of maturity through respecting their coaches, parents, the opposition and above all else each other.

Kit and training equipment

We would like to thank the Red House for their on-going support of being our kit sponsor.

In addition to this, Rich, with the help of Luca Martin, managed to secure and additional £1,500 from the Somerset Crimebeat charity.

We will be in a new all red kit for this season with either our old blue kit or last year’s u15s blue PSG style kit as our reserve strip. In addition to this we hope to provide players with hoodies and waterproof jackets.

Match days and pitch

The great news is that we will be returning to East Coker as our home pitch for the new season.  The pitch has had approximately £1000 spend on it during the summer along with lots of work on it by committee members.

Throughout the season, for both matches and training, we would like your continued help and support setting up/taking down the nets and running the line.   As always please feel free to discuss anything with us at any time.

Regards

Rich and Nick
